Russian Anti Tank Dogs Empty Russian Anti Tank Dogs

Read this little Gem on Wikipedia:

The Soviet Union used dogs for anti-tank purposes beginning in the 1930s. Earlier anti-tank dogs were fitted with tilt-rod mines and trained to run beneath enemy tanks, which would detonate the mines automatically. However, the dogs were trained with stationary Russian tanks and very seldom ran under moving tanks, instead being shot as they ran beside moving tanks. When both Russian and German tanks were present, the dogs would preferentially run towards the familiar Russian tanks.

I feel like battlefront missed a real opportunity here to have Russian anti tank dogs that might attack their own tanks..

feels very goblin fanatic esq..

Ya the Germans use gas the Russians used desiel they trained the dogs on their own tanks so they went for the desiel smell instead of the gas. The reason they will never have them is peta would shit themselves over it if they ever found out.

There was a lot of weird stuff coming out of WW2, like the bat fire bombs the USA tried to use.

Cold war had some interesting stuff too.  Read up on the ship called the Glomar Explorer.    Or read up on whatvthey ended up using the submarine USS Halibut for.   The only submarine that had a "Batcave" on board...

Project Habakkuk

Perhaps less out there, but the Brits during WW2 were looking at making massive aircraft carriers out of ice, effectively unsinkable ships..

I guess hit it with all the torpedoes you want..

"Under the shark's mouth hatch loomed the Bat Cave - 28 feet wide, 50 feet long, and 30 feet high - containing three levels of sophisticated technology, including a state-of-the-art Univac 1124 computer (about as powerful as a modern top-of-the-line hand-held programmable calculator)."

Yup. I like that they used it for all sorts of CIA-stuff, with mini subs and the whole nine yards. My dad was saying that they would go every month with the mini sub, and remove the tape recorders from that undersea cable between Vladivostok and the mainland, and replace with blank tapes to record the next month's soviet navy orders for the Pacific Submarine Fleet. He used to chase subs for a living before being an interceptor pilot. The Russians would have "fishing trawlers" in international waters that never caught any fish, but were covered in antennas and so on. THey would leave a trail of miles-long antenna in the water as well, and would be the comms relay between Russian satellites and the Russian navy submarines operating on super low frequency bandwidths.. so low that each 'wave' of the signal was more than a mile long, hence the long antenna. The long wavelengths travel very far underwater, and all subs were told to deploy the long antenna at certain times to receive orders. His planes would try and fly overhead at these times and intercept the signals, though he was never over the pacific, but did most of his anti sub work in the arctic, north pole, Murmansk, all those places. The Russians also had a system of cruise missiles launched from large supersonic bombers (TU-22M) that would fire form about 400km offshore. THe cruise missiles were guided to their destinations in the US at the last minute by a submarine that would surface offshore, and the sail of the sub had a large rotating radome on it (like the AWACS planes, but on a sub) They were able to spot one and took pics in 1971. THey relayed their find back, and by the time they landed in Scotland 8 hours later, the CIA were there waiting, they took all the film. They told those CIA guys "Next time we see one, we aren't telling you assholes" They ofc never saw one ever again.... THough they were tasked with trying to follow a prototype sub one time by the USN. It had two hulls like a catamaran, and was so fast it couldn't fire torpedoes as it was faster than any known torp. Easy to spot though on sonar, the twin props making a tonne of noise in the water. Again, they saw it once and never again. Yep. Get some beer into my dad and uncle, and the Cold War tales come flying out Smile
