Canadian 3rd Infantry Division List Empty Canadian 3rd Infantry Division List

Post  Farmer Pat Mon Oct 19, 2015 3:49 pm

Hi there,

So I am trying to build a 3rd Canadian infantry list from Market Garden. This is my first real list aside from Tanksgiving. I realize that a lot of this is subjective and it really seems as though it depends on how good of a player you are compared to what a list does. That said, There are some items I would like in my list...

Infantry - 330 - 440pts (The backbone of the military) (2 platoons + HQ)
4x 6 pdrs AT Guns - 15 pts. I just love them, and already own them so nothing further to purchase for now :-)
4x 25 pdr Arty - 195 pts - Commonwealth must have from what I can tell
4x 5.5" guns - 320 pts Never used them, but I like the fact that they can direct fire and hurt bigger tanks, breakthrough gun and fairly effective against top armour in bombardment (as much as Arty can be anyway). These are a maybe because it requires a LOT more painting before November 15.
Shermans + Fireflys - 455 pts - I like the Recce ones for more points. They have eyes and ears and cautious movement (but no disengage)
AOP - 25 pts

So I have 275 pts left. I REALLY want to take a Vickers MG section with PIAT team upgrade for 105 pts.

That leaves me with 170 pts. Do I need (or should I get) transports for my arty or inf? I am eyeballing Universal carriers as recce (cheap) but they appear to kinda suck. Last battle I had against an armoured force (when I was in defensive) they just hid the entire battle. Are PIATs good upgrades? Wasps? Other thoughts? Can PIAT carriers be used to transport stuff as well as recce?

Other options to purchase with remaining points include a platoon of commandos (maybe a bit high in cost) or limited typhoon air support.

I would go with the air support or the recce,

transports are good, but i woudn't worry about transports or your guns etc unless you just have points left over,

one word of caution though is that tourneys with alot of infantry can be very draing to play,

I would say that it's pretty rare to face an all armoured force like I fielded ; if you need a static platoon to cover an objective then infantry is much more point effective. Though at 1900 pts maybe people will feel like they don't need to cut corners to go fully mobile. Imho transports are nice to grab if you have some spare points but as they are non-armoured they are death traps if a gun is pointed in their general direction.

I usually grab air support to ensure that I have an even number of platoons (as they don't count)...

Twinlinked is right. You want to be careful about being that infantry and gun heavy army at a tournament as your games will drag on and on.

I'd read this article from WWPD. It breaks down the Canadian infantry for tournament play. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] In fact my army will be pretty close to whats in this article. And Kangaroos are a must. Its the uparmoured Lav III of WW2.

As for Universal carriers. They weak and puny, but in a game they can be really good. Most people ignore them, so if you are careful they can scout around the battlefield lifting GTG, machine gunning infantry and grabbing objectives till re inforcements arrive. And they are relatively cheap.

I think 1900 is a brutal points total for a tournament. As we found out Friday slugfest games are just going to take to long.

good thing you don't go to tournaments Smile

You SHOULD.... but I guess the higher points values are the rage in the US. I literally don;t have enough painted free french models to field 1900 points in LW. There are no high points sink units like the krauts have.. so no Jagd-ANything, or King-anything Smile

1900 is huge for LW - Mid War would be awesome at that level......

US armor is gonna be nuts with all the bells and whistles.......be prepared!

my big concern is the game time limits, there may be a lot of games that run long, 2.5 hours per game may be better, will be interesting ot see,

1900 is huge for a tournament game. But in the next week or so they will be announcing the new tournament points levels for next year. It will be too late for the November tournament, but it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Welp.. the 1900 pts limits affects everyone equally. And unless the T.O. Bob puts in 3 defensive missions, the infantry horde player is only shafting himself with not enough time to get things rolling. And some players are very FAST at moving infantry. WHo knows. I'll be bringing my 21st Pzr probably, as it is complete and I have very little to paint (might take 2 x SP AA)

i hope it goes down to 1650 or something, if it goes up to 2100 then we know it is only a matter of time before super heavies get added to the game..

That's nice that tournaments work for you, they don't work for me. And telling me "I'm doing it wrong" doesn't help.

I have a feeling that we will end up going down in points at the tournament level. It was great for the year of the late-late war book releases, but I would expect it go down a bit to allow for more earlier late war lists.

Just joshin yah.. my point is that if you dont bring many models games are less draining,

obviously do what you like and there is no wrong way to play little army men..

The internet is always there to tell you how wrong you are, no matter what!!!
Case in point, I follow ELITE Dangerous forums at work (bcs they are not blocked.. yet) on downtime, and for a while, 'the forums' said "Smuggling sucks, make it worthwhile" so Frontier did a stealth buff to the missions, and told no one. THen all of a sudden 'the forums' say "OMFG you can make 20 million CR/Hour, NERF PLS" and then after a week or so, did a stealth nerf to the frequency of the uber missions, even though you need high rep to get them. Yesterday and today "OMFG Smuggling sucks now, it isnt fair, all those ppl made lots of money, I didnt, waaagh <crymore>"
If i was a moderator or a Dev, I would cry myself to sleep at night Smile
I am reminded of the angry mob in the Simpsons that never knows what they want or what they are angry about, they are just plain angry.

Haterz gonna hate..

back to the OP, pat just be careful you dont bag down your games with moving models and end up spent at the end of the day,

If you are free for a game or two let me know and we can play test your list so that you are good and familiar with it Smile
