Black Powder Markers

Post  Coyote on Sat Apr 15, 2017 9:44 am

While I have the Black Powder rules I'm too lazy today to read through them. Can someone recap what markers are needed? Also, when I did start thumbing through the rules I saw that casualty markers were used. Do people use this or model removal? I was thinking of a little tray which held the status marker and a dice for casualties. Or do you use multiple status markers on a unit?

Also, while I'm asking questions I could answer by reading the rules, how does the basing work out? For my Napoleonics project I'm planning 4x2 figures on a 60mm base. Would that work with Black Powder's 40mm basing?

This is how I'm basing:

I haven't read the rules either, but infantry are base on a 40mm x 40mm base. 4 figs per base. Dennis had home made markers with SHAKEN on one side snd DISORDERED on the reverse. For casualties we put a dead figure on a base with room for a small die for counting casualties. I guess one could come up with their own system. Figures are never removed individually. You can only lose the whole unit.

Basing in black powder is based on frontage. So a normal unit in line is 6 bases of 40mm by 40mm. Since you have 60mm wide bases.. go with 4 stands per unit.. it ends up being the samebwidth. For the tokens.. yes shaken is one state.. disordered is the other. No other states to keep track of. If i could get 15 of each in blue.. let me know how much i owe you

Hmmm, better clarify. One set in red and one set green. Not two sets red and green.

I'd also take a set of 15 in red, if possible, I can get you the cash when ever.

I picked up my materials last night so only have a single sheet of blue. If you don't mind blue I can drop some stuff I added as filler to accommodate.

Blue's fine on my end, if you have enough mats.

I'll take a set of 15 or so if you can make that many.

Sadly, I ran out of time. The engraving on the saga widgets took over an hour. The cutter is booked up to the 30 day limit so I'll try to get back as soon as possible.

My pleasure. They look pretty good although the Dice Devils logo isn't as legible as I'd like. I also included the laser kerf in my calculations so they're close enough to spot-on that you'd need calipers to tell the difference.

I really need my own lasercutter. There was a whole sheet of stuff I didn't get to cut and the library cutter is booked solid.

what amount of kerf would you need for a laser... for my plasma machine the kerf is 0.03 of an inch which is 1/32.

Strange, I'm having that weird issue where I can't post too long things to this forum.

It depends on the material and the laser setting. I'm estimating 0.16mm. I should make a test cut to measure but it's extra time on the laser cutter which is increasingly hard to book and requires calipers which I don't have.

It's really about someone taking their tape measure and not seeing the widget is off by any noticeable amount.

Also important when designing boxes. A bit off topic but I've created an OpenScad design which allows me to specify a box size, material thickness and kerf and it will create the cuts needed with finger joints. My end goal will be to specify a box size and internal divider positions to let me quickly crank out various counter and token storage designs.
