Hopeful New Player
Hello,
I've been a subscriber of Dice Devils/Table Top Tacticians for a while now by way of Ca$h. I knew him in the bad ol' GW days and then reconnected years later at Dell. I'm hoping to find a place in your group, trying to find some people that don't just play Warhammer and Warmachine, despite living in the quiet hamlet of Blackburn.
Hopefully I can find some people playing something I'll enjoy.

Games I Play
I currently own miniatures/painted armies for:- Batman Miniature Game: Second 200pt band almost painted, absolutely missing all the counters and objectives required to play.
- Heavy Gear: The kickstarter should arrive this week. I have about 150 TV of Northern gears painted from an earlier edition, more if I repaint some shoulders. I want to focus on this, paint fast and get playing.
- Infinity: I have a 200 point Nomad army painted.
Games I'm Looking to Play
- Bolt Action: I have a rifle platoon of WWII Canadians painted for a different game I've never used. I'm interested in the second edition since I could probably get rules, dice and counters and play.
Beyond the Gates of Antares: I'm interested in this game. I like Rick Priestly's designs and I miss sci-fi wargaming.
Kings of War: I was mildly interested until they announced historical army lists balanced against their existing armies.
Honourable Mentions
- Deadzone: I painted the main set of 1st Edition but between the 2nd Edition being released so quickly and lack of people to play with I'm resigned to abandoning this game.
War of 1812: This project has been mostly, but not officially, abandoned. I'm painting up a Battle of Lundy's lane (both forces) battle in 28mm 1:10 unit scale. The ambition has proven over, the British force would be roughly 300 figures, and the lack of decent Americans in 28mm has put this project on the far back burner.
So You Don't
I've tried Warmachine and Flames of War and am not a fan of either. I actually painted a 2nd Ed. Battlebox for Warmachine and gave it a good try. Flames of War I've played once but was dismayed by the tank parking lots. Thought I'd save you the trouble.Hopefully I can find some people playing something I'll enjoy.
Re: Hopeful New Player
Welcome!
A couple of us have infinity, and I'm sure Brett would love to have another infinity player. I also do have some batman mini's, mostly League of Shadows.
A fair number of us have Kings of War armies as well. Would you object to historicals?
A few of us started Gates of Antares (not me), so it's quite a possibility.
I will have to let you know that I do in fact have quite a bit of Bolt Action and first Edition Rebs for Deadzone, and would love to get some Deadzone games in. However, I left these two back in storage in Alberta, so if I make it back over Christmas, I'll know to bring some back with me.
But yes, I do have to warn you the main games we play are flames of war and Warmachine, at the moment.

Re: Hopeful New Player
For Kings of War not only do I not object to historicals but the idea of playing Marion Romans vs. Undead increased my interest level.
I don't have any immediate plans for Kings of War. The Heavy Gear Kickstarter is likely to arrive this week and I am currently planning to get everything painted up before moving on to a different project. Is anyone other than Ca$h interested in Heavy Gear?
Is Monday at Out of the Box the main meetup?

Re: Hopeful New Player
Tuesday at OutoftheBox is Warmachine night. Monday I don't believe they do anything there.
Monday is pub night in Almonte, its again mostly warmachine, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind another game being played...
As Glitch said, most of us are going strong with Warmachine and Hordes currently, with Flames of War being a couple people's main game still, and probably a strong secondary for the rest of us.
A few of us tried Infinity, it only really stuck with a couple people (Brett and Duaner) it seems. Too complex for me, prefer 40k for my Sci-Fi fix.
Kings of War burned bright and died hard with us. No real talk of it at all anymore. With Age of Signar getting points now, I've seen a lot more interest in that game in town, if not our group.
None of us, aside from Glitch have any Batman models that I'm aware of and I think one person might own a little Heavy Gear, but I could be wrong.
Either way, welcome aboard, if you'd like to try out Flames or Warmachine again, we'd be more than willing to show you. There is a reason we play them most, as they generally have the best rulesets from the games we've played.

Re: Hopeful New Player
I certainly won't claim Warmachine doesn't have good rules. Unfortunately because the rules are so tight they lead to tactics which dispels my fantasy and reminds me that I'm playing a game.
Tuesday works better for me. I may stop by just to chat. Even if I'm not playing I enjoy spending time with wargamers. The Warmachine guys at Kessel Run (in my neck of the town) are nice but I feel like I'm trying to corrupt them away from Warmachine if I ever talk about something else. At least there's a history of other games with you guys.
I only wish Out of the Box used google for their calendar. I've been collecting local store's event calendars into one place for easy reference.

Re: Hopeful New Player
My Heavy Gear arrived - must say Im not impressed with the quality of the plastics, but I did get a great deal and a ton of stuff. Currently Im focused on building up my Warmachine, as I like to play it painted, so Im sticking to working on that for now as time allows.
Re: Hopeful New Player
I'm sad but not surprised to hear that the quality of Heavy Gear is poor. They've randomly reversed some details and have really cut down on the quality of the detail in the name of preventing undercuts.
I hear you on staying focused. If I was going to change my mind about Warmachine (which I considered with the new edition) I'd still want to get all my Heavy Gear stuff painted.
What faction you thinking of starting on? I'm painting the Southern forces first because I already have a bunch of northern stuff. This way hopefully I can put on demonstration games.

Haven't decided yet. Have to do some reading before committing, if I can find the time lol

Out of the box is a hockey card store. They only really do Warmachine now since i spent a good long time talking to Dan about it, and getting him hooked up with a pressganger to facilitate it even more.
Outside of cards, he does carry magic too, but all these non-hockey card lines are just for fun for him. His business is still 95% based on hockey cards, as such he doesn't really do a schedule as its only really tuesday for Warmachine right now.
