Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Thinking of starting up a regular game again, is there interest here? Thinking of hosting bi-weekly (I can do weekly if people want - already have wife approval), getting a regular thing going - Pathfinder most likely, but also open to D&D 5e if people want to try the new simpler system. Idea is to get a true campaign going and playing semi regularly. I can/will DM unless someone really wants to run it.
Post up if your keen and have a preferred time frame and maybe we can plan something soon.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
What days are we thinking? Tuesdays and Wednesdays work best for me. Weekends are an iffier proposition.
I main as GM so would be willing assuming the days work out. I've been feeling the urge to RPG. I have a big pdf collection of Pathfinder, would buy some 5E materials but my preference is 13th Age. It's somewhat of a hybrid of 4e and 3.5/Pathfinder which has a mechanism to speed up the tail ends of combat. It does sacrifice a little bit of crunch for healing and leveling in that you get a full heal every 4 encounters regardless of time spent, and you get a level after 4 full heals.
Also, it's the current bundle of holding for the next 7 days. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Tuesdays work for me, and I know the guys here all have Pathfinder books already, so may be easiest to work with what we all have already. I am open to streamlining if the rules your talking about are easy enough to tack on.
We can see who else wants to put in say 3-4hr chunks and go from there...Im really keen about trying to get a regular thing going...

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
I should mention that all of 13th Age core book is available as an online SRD: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
If people want Pathfinder and there's someone who wants to DM Pathfinder we should go with them. I could do it but I imagine the amount of rules mistakes from my lack of familiarity (I haven't played Pathfinder in years) would drive a Pathfinder GM nuts.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Im open to really anything, provided its fun
We aren't generally rules lawyers when it comes to RPG, its totally DM discretion - so flubbing rules is fine...I don't want to get caught up into "playing by the book" or the "proper way" over just having fun...
I dont pretend to know the rules sets well of any current game, so I would be an adhoc GM either way myself...
My plan was to pick up a starter module, to play through and learn the intricacies as we go....

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
I haven't been to your place since the few times you hosted MTG for the Dell crew. Do you still have the big TV hooked up to a computer in the gaming area? I've been wanting to experiment with Roll20 as a virtual tabletop for a while.
I've also been wanting an excuse to buy and paint some minis for rpg. Before Saga came around I was lamenting how each time I adopt a game the community seems to be already on the decline (hence my desperation to get and paint my Saga stuff) and was starting to think I should return to RPGs and put my painting effort to painting miniatures for the game.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
SAGA is very much NOT on the decline with us - we are only just getting into it
I am still in Kanata - different place then back in the Dell days however - Bridlewood none the less.
Also, yes, I have a PC connected to my basement TV (who doesn't?!?) and I started looking at the Roll20, and may investigate it more, but I am hoping the table can be the focus initially... and move on from there.
As for the RPG, only really need 3-4 people and myself and we'll have a solid party. Ideally people can roll up their characters ahead of time, so after introductions we can start playing right away....
Leaning towards running a level 1 through 6/7 Pathfinder module...

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Ok, I wrote up something on 13th Age in a different thread to avoid cluttering. I'll run 13th Age or play Pathfinder. At least I have a Pathfinder module for Hero Lab to make it easier to make my character despite my rusty-ness. With 13th Age it's good to have a session 0 since most campaigns are built around the heroes.
I haven't yet used Roll20 in a face-to-face RPG but I have played and run games using it to connect with people online. It works well and you can really go crazy, even programming your character sheet in so you have macros for all your rolls. I even have a 13th Age adventure in there where every monster has buttons on their tiles the GM can use to roll their attacks.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Roll20 looks like a great game aid - not sure I will have the time to build out an adventure and review the rules along with learning to use it...but maybe I can put some time into it...
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
It also depends on your GM style. I tend to be very improv since I don't want to do prep unless I want to do prep. I also try not to railroad my players. Basically I learnt a lot of lessons from Dungeon World, one of my favorites is playing to find out what happens. The idea is you decide on what question you want to ask with your encounter and then play the game to find out. So if you want to know how the players are going to stop the dragon you don't then decide that they have to get the special dragon-killing sword and lure the dragon into a trap. If you want there to be a special dragon killing sword required to kill the dragon you ask the question - Will the players find out about the sword and acquire it before the dragon forces a fight they cannot win. It prevents adventures from hitting brick walls.
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
That's pretty cool. I was thinking of using an module to flesh out the start, and then branch off into homebrew as the sessions progress - that way the framework of an arc is there..and it's up to the players to explore and adventure around it as they see fit.
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Sounds like a good plan. I don't mind modules. Since I'm a DM 99% of the time when I do play I tend to play the hero that is enthusiastic about following the plot hook. "Hey guys, look at these railroad tracks, I think we should follow them"
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
So with yourself and Chris, only really "NEED" one more and we can schedule a start...
I texted Brett as I know he was keen, just not sure if Tuesdays work for him....the idea would be to do a few hours (3-4) only at a time, so its easier to schedule and do when people have to work in the morning...

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Well, I'm super excited about this. I don't mind running a lower player count game but I'm sure the pathfinder module has little sections in each encounter to scale for levels and player count.
I'm good to go this Tuesday or next Tuesday, either GM or player.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Lothlann - can you do tomorrow? Even to roll toons and such?
If not then we can plan for the following - May 30
We'll see who else is keen
BRETT is in for Tuesdays - so the party is forming, he will confirm availability for tomorrow and/or May 30
Im excited!

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Also are we doing pathfinder or 13th age? If we're doing pathfinder I'll make my character tonight. If we're doing 13th age we'll do a session 0
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
I know Chris and Brett have played Pathfinder - and have source books - so it's likely the easiest to go with... Let's start there if that's ok - and hopefully this will become somewhat regular and we can expand from there.
If you want to make a character - feel free. I just ask you lean towards Neutral or Good alignment - I'd rather not have evil aligned characters to start out... that's not to say players wont be able to shift their alignments over time via RP....

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Haha, like I said I am normally a GM so if there is a thing that annoys a GM, like playing an evil character, you can be sure I won't be doing it.
Well, except for looking up monster profiles, I just can't not do it.
Anyone thinking about their character yet? I'm probably going to make a few so I have an option when we all sit down. I tend towards playing clerics just to make sure that role is filled but I'm also wondering about playing something different.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
ya i can do tomorrow, Brett has all my starwars rpg books, not that were doing that.
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Great! That you can do tomorrow- not that Brett has your books - lol...
What time works for you guys?
Maybe just meet up to get characters started, I can explain the areas/backstory of the realm you are in - flesh out what you would know and is "common knowledge" - build the backstory as you roll characters....so you can leverage it into the characters you make....etc Just a couple hours to get the ball rolling..
Also - a 4th would be perfect - any takers?!

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Yes, there are some character options depending on where we are which would tie us deeper into the game.
I've been using the standard rolls for the attributes, 4d6, drop lowest and assign. Somehow I've managed to get a 5 in both characters I've created.

Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
I'm use to the rolling <= 10 stats and try to jump in pits of lava so i can reroll that shit. Any time after 5 is good for me.
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
I'm done work at 5 so it'll probably be closer to 6. Ca$h will have to pm me the address.
Re: Really miss pen and paper RPG..
Anytime at or after 6 works for coming over.
I PM'd my details Tyler
Looks like Brett, yourself and Chris will be coming over to get some characters sorted and review the background of the world, etc..
Still room for 1-2 more players if anyone is keen!
