So, Cav Recon or TD Company
I HAVE to have Cavalry Recon units (love the models!!) so I am trying to decide if I should build a TD company (only 2 TD units, rest Cav recon) or a Cav Recon list with 1 TD platoon, and a Light tank platoon, with loads several Cav recon platoons...
Both will not be min/man armies, I plan to have a unit of Armored Rifles and M7 Priests in both, so they should be pretty balanced.
Thoughts?
I plan to place an order tomorrow for the remaining models......

i say Cav recon, and with the M36 as the sole TD, if your going to have only one TD platoon it may as well have the hardest hitting gun

Hmmm it really depends on what your playstyle will be like. Both lists are 'fragile' but in different ways. The TDs are annoying, very deadly, very expensive (~900 points just for Command and 2 combat platoons) but brittle to balance them out.
Multiple TD units can control a battlefield but if you run 3 units you will have very very little else (I know you only planned to run 2 units). Whereas the cav recon are not near as expensive (~270 per squad at 3 patrols each) but aren't near as deadly. Still annoying but not fear causing.
I find for their points cost, ARP are a better 'buy' over cav recon patrols, but to each their own entirely on that point.
In the end I'd say go with your cav recon army. You can adjust how much you spend on the actual cav recon guys down to very very low and have a lot of extra toys, with the TD army you are forced to spend a lot of points on your CV TDs as the combat platoons. With TDs an ARP and priests, your support choices will quickly add up in points (likely couldn't run all those units with the TDs anyways due to cost of the TDs).
Oh, and a final thought. Using the M36s, while appealing purely based on AT 14 can be misleading as you can't buy them as veteran and they have the same armour as a stuart, so be mindful of their glass cannony-ness.
Regardless what you choose, have fun with it, I heartily agree the Cav Recon models (M8s and M20s) are pretty cool looking vehicles.

I plan to get a 2nd ARP platoon eventually, so I can run an ARP army, but I want to start with something different. I think the Cav Recon will be where I start - only 1 TD platoon, and ARP in it also...so should be solid.

Ah, very cool I had not noticed that!! Thanks for pointing it out, makes them more appealing if almost prohibitively pricey, lol.

Also bear in mind, your ARP in that list is CT, which hurts them a good bit.
