Rob and Gun Tanking
So in our game what we did was OK.
Seems when shooting, use the easiest 'team' to hit in the Platoon. So the Shermans on 5+ was right, if the Firefly was within 16", and you make the gun tank roll, you can put the hit on the Firefly. So we're good there, it was a good game regardless and you losing those two tanks did not impact your ability to get the win anyways! Which is good news as well, sucks those Firefly's don't have HE rounds.....but I think what you did by keeping them in cover was the right idea and how you should proceed in the future.

Re: Rob and Gun Tanking
Well it's not the'easiest' to hit but tanks w/i 16 inches are prioritized, likewise tanks that are not in conver.
So yes. If rob had one firefly (out of tge platoon) at close range and wanted to assign a hit (because of no he) that's his prerogative.

Re: Rob and Gun Tanking
my understanding is,
if you are shooting at a platoon of Vet tanks, 3 are concealed and 1 is in the open, and you are in short range,
you need to 4s to hit all the tanks since the easiest one to hit is in the open and sr so no modifiers,
further if some are at long range but you still have one in short range in the open you still need 4s to hit the entire platoon,
this hapens to me all the time with infantry, if one is in the open you hit them all as if they were in the open, the only time you seperate out the shots is when some targets can be hit and other cant, MGs LOS blocking terrian etc.
is this your understanding?

Re: Rob and Gun Tanking
You are right... saw the gun tanking in the title and saw the 5+ in the text so I thought the OP was about allocating hits. Not determining if something hit.

Re: Rob and Gun Tanking
I had this posted on the WPPD forum for clarification, even thought what Rob and I did the right thing!
From Eric Riha....just what Rob wanted!!!
So I like to think of the Gun Tank rule as the commander of the platoon giving the order to fire at a specific tank in the enemy platoon. "Focus fire on that Firefly!"
The dudes in the platoon are still going to fire at whatever targets they have - the 5+ roll is to see if they can line up those shots on the target of choice. On a roll of 1-4, "I can't see the Firefly, but I will engage the other tanks in this platoon." or "That looks like a Firefly (totally a Sherman), fire!" On a roll of 5-6, "Firefly in sight, fire!"
Once the order has been given, you can't take it back once the rounds are in flight. If you roll four hits, then roll four 5's to Gun Tank, then your gunners followed your orders to the letter: all four hits go to that one Firefly.
There can be a few quirks to that mechanically, but that perspective covers the majority of Gun Tank situations.
