Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
So in chatting with Tris yesterday, I am currently not playing an MMO.... (ELITE I dont think counts really... nor does World of Torpedoes) so I am thinking of either playing TSW.. my co-worker just got it and says its different and its only box buy then its F2P or else I am thinking super old school.... Everquest Time Locked Progression server.. I have never played the original Everquest... it has death penalties, all that old stuff, HARD content... I kinda dont want my hand hel like in every other MMO it seems (well, not EVE)
Any thoughts?

Kinda... its a shooter with some multiplayer and progression. Its more like BF4 than any MMO..

I played it for a while ... thought the setting and story was absolutely fantastic (esp for the folks that watch b-grade horror movies). The group raids were pretty good... you would have 2-3 minibosses that would each have one mechanic and then the final boss would be a bitch to kill and use all of the previous mechanics at once. The skill wheel was pretty innovative as well -- as you level your skillset becomes broader but your role is more gear dependent. I don't recall what server I was on... might have been Daemon.
I stopped playing because (1) for the end of the world (dec 21, 2012 -- remember the mayans?) they had some very annoying ingame stuff (2) loadtimes were absolutely brutal for me. (3) PvP was very meh (4) needed to cut down the number of games I was playing at once.
A lot of the early quests needed to look up stuff on google -- great idea but now the top hits are the spoiler sites and not the original reference material.

Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
Since ESO is free now, I will patch up tonight and take another look...
Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
I have played everquest off and on a fair bit, I wouldn't really recommend that, it is super old school and I think it would not be very user friendly to a new person. Also I am not sure I would really say that it was hard, well in some ways it is I guess. There are death penalties and grinds and stuff like that, but is that really what you want? They have taken a fair bit of that stuff out of the game from the original also, like you don't leave your equipment with your corpse anymore.
I found ESO to be alright, I just got bored of it really fast. Have been playing FF14 again with my brother and am enjoying that, might be worth having a look.
Thanks;
Mike

Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
I did buy and play FX14 - its still sub based though i think..... very asian in style and such....
I found the grind for "tokens" or whatever the currency for higher gear kinda meh - and it just gets the the gear to then grind the higher end stuff...for more...etc.

Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
I played EQ1 a few months ago, its ftp so i logged in my old druid and goofed around, its hard to get past the old controls, they were never updated and the land graphics are so bad, just the same texture over and over, at least the old zones, i didn't go into the new zones.
EQ2 has the same problems of out dated graphics, i logged into that too and i don't remember it looking so bad when it came out.

Except Destiny is fun....
Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
i thought ff 14 was a lot of fun, we were with a good group of people, just the challenges at the end game were kind of ridiculously hard.

Truth - except the grind. only 1-2 dungeons to do all that grinding in...
Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
so prison of elders...
in any case i'd like to start playing eso again and my main rather then an alt since we can start leveling up the higher level content now. unless you guys want to keep going with our daggerfall toons.

Do we still have to do the other two factions as cheap "high level content"? Or is there something new?
Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
no clue, as far as i know we can go to craglorn and start doing quests ect there and level up there and doing hard mode dungeons and pvp
Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
Craglorn is group content - not solo.
Still just the other zones :
. Once you complete the main mission you will have access - once you talk to him - to Cadwell's Silver then Gold 'missions'. They will open up new alliances for you to explore as if your character was a new character starting them (but at veteran level not level 1). Or there is Craglorn, which will be tricky at lower Veteran Rank but still enjoyable with a good group of friends. And of course there are always group dungeons, undaunted daily pledges, the war in Cyrodiil, and so on."
So yeah......ummm....I dont know about that.....

I found the same thing when I was playing it close to release but they have been adding allot of stuff, there are now 19 endgame dungeons, 3 24 man raids, 9ish Primals, and 15 or something of the hard 8 man ones. Plus there is an expansion coming in less then a month.
I thought I read that they were changing ESO to get rid of the veteran levels thing or something?
Thanks;
Mike

Re: Choose my own Adventure (MMO)
I guess there is no harm loading in my VR Rank 1 Sorc and checking out what I can do at "50"...
AND nope- not doing ESO. Logged in, everyone recommending I "grind" out VR1-10 by doing the other factions lvl 1-50 PVE content. not going to happen. "end game" (ie raids,. etc) starts at VR10-VR14 now....
I'll keep looking....

I picked up Darkest Dungeon [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for $20 on steam. It's masochistically hard w/o looking up spoilers.
