Also while i was browsing the interwebs.. The Axe Murder Incident
Coles Notes:
In 1976 in the DMZ between North and South Korean there is a tree that is blocking line of sight from one UN post to another.
UN (American) troops decide to go and trim the tree..
North Koreans get mad and say you cannot trim the tree because it was planted by their leader..
Americans continue to trim the tree..
North Koreans attack and kill the two American officers that are leading the tree trimming party with axes..
Americans run away..
Americans decide f*** trimming that tree we are cutting it down..
Two days later the UN initiates Operation Paul Bunyan..
Americans deploy a section of engineers with chainsaws to cut down the tree and a second section of engineers with chainsaws as backup.. cause 8 guys with chainsaws just might not be enough to cut down a tree..
They also deploy a platoon of infantry as security for the engineers and an addition 64 man South Korean special forces company as additional support..
oh and the Americans also deploy:
apparently:
This is all kinds of epic.. i'm also a little sad I am only learning about this now..

A U.S. infantry company in 20 utility helicopters and 7 Cobra attack helicopters circled behind them. Behind these helicopters, B-52 Stratofortresses from Guam escorted by U.S. F-4 Phantom IIs from Kunsan Air Base and South Korean F-5 and F-86 fighters were visible flying across the sky at high altitude. At Taegu Air Base, F-111 bombers of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Mountain Home Air Force Base, were stationed, and F-4 Phantoms C and D from the 18th TFW Kadena Air Base and Clark Air Base were also deployed. The aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41) task force had also been moved to a station just offshore.[6]
apparently:
According to an intelligence analyst monitoring the North Korea tactical radio net, the accumulation of force "blew their... minds".[
