Not sure since this is KoW but his tourneys usually fill quick.
Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
Good point,
The way i see it, if i cant play in the event because it fills up, that is a great thing for the KoW community, and i will catch the next one

So who is all thinking of going? I think I'm going to try for it, using Wrath of Kings werewolves for a pretty much all werewolf undead army.

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
Well, if my stuff gets in on time, I can somehow find time to assemble it, and am able to play on the 28th...
This is what I'm hoping to rock:
Kings of War - Undead - 1500pts
Lady Ilona - Hero - (280pts)
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Werewolves w/Fire-Oil - Horde - (250pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Soul Reaver Infantry - Troop - (180pts)
Soul Reaver Infantry - Troop - (180pts)
Kings of War - Undead - 1500pts
Vampire Lord w/Heal(2), Crepognon's Scrying Gem of Zellak - Hero - (260pts)
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Werewolves w/Blessing of the Gods - Horde - (270pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Soul Reaver Infantry - Troop - (180pts)
Soul Reaver Infantry - Troop - (180pts)
Possibly this one, but unlikely:
Kings of War - Undead - 1500pts
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Lykanis - Hero - (145pts)
Werewolves - Horde - (245pts)
Werewolves - Horde - (245pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Werewolves - Regiment - (160pts)
Soul Reaver Infantry w/Dwarven Ale - Regiment - (270pts)
Ghouls - Troop - (65pts)
Ghouls - Troop - (65pts)
But who am I kidding, I'll probably waffle with my list until the night before the tournament. =P

Cool, and I just e-mailed the Will (the Tournament Organizer), and he just replied saying that there are only two spots left currently.

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
that is great news!
if the tourney fills up that will get the game lots of exposure
I will have to see if there are any openings at the last minute,

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
sounds good,
i am not that worried if i dont get to play in this one because it is full.. if this tourney fills up, it means that there will be lots more which is awesome!
i was a little under whelmed by the fact that we only had 6 people at CGX this summer,

Last Game Summit I had 4 FoW players......so thats an improvement!
Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
True story.. FoW has moved to having its own events in the Ottawa area, no need to be affiliated with larger events..
I am leaning more and more towards miniature tournaments being thier own thing and not being part of bigger conventions, peopel tend to complain about paying to get into an event they don't even get to see..
time will tell i guess,

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
I suspect if we start talking to some of the game stores with larger gaming spaces (and parking), they would totally be on board with us using their space as long as they sold the game and we were the ones doing the work to organize. Any thoughts?

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
FDB, Kobolds, and Fandom are all willing to let others run tournaments in their gaming spaces, so yes this is an option,
We pay $50 for a 2 Day FoW nationals event, at a downtown venue, it would be closer to $75 to hold it at an event like CGX , and it would be a lot harder to organize and the location would be worse. So why be affiliated with big events, it seems like maybe it is just a headache..

Re: KOW tournament at kobolds
Convention tournaments have their place, but the scale has to match. Their place is pretty much limited to exposure to demographics that may not wander into a game store on a "game night" or during a tournament. So the goal of the tournament has two main goals, an immediate goal of providing a great gaming event for the players taking part in it; and a peripheral goal, which is to generate interest in potential players who may have never heard of the hobby, heard of the particular game, or have heard of the game but have never seen it in action. A large event also broadcasts that there is a vibrant community and that the community is approachable. So a small event at the convention may be damaging to recruiting potential players.
But as for running tournaments for existing players, just go small with game stores as venues. The costs are far lower, the logistics are easier to coordinate, and you don't have to deal with convention mix ups. And you can run them far more often and regularly. And with convention size events, you really do need support from the company themselves, as you will either have inflated entry costs for mediocre prize support, or limited/poor prize support.
But yes, I feel as though convention tournaments are most useful for showing others that our hobby and communities are approachable and friendly, helping break down the stigmas associated with it.
