If you like pasta, I used to like a small place called Chianti on the south side of the city, just by South Centre Mall. Pretty affordable and pretty good portion sizes.

Thanks Duane, but since DF is FROM there he would know the best, not as well known ones.
Thanks Desert. We are in the south end of town on the Mcleod Trail (should be renamed Highway not 'trail'

Well the place has two advantages for him:
1. It's not flashy / pretentious
2. It's not that far from where he lives so uh.. he can drive it more "safely"
But iirc it was an alright place.

Chianti's is right on McLeod Trail. (There are 4 in the city though)

Great for a university student budget.
Otherwise, if you want something a bit fancier, and pricier.
Pampa is an all you can eat premium cut meats Brazilian BBQ. It's about $50+ a person, but it is amazing.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Coincidently, the first location was in Edmonton, but they opened a location in Calgary.
If you like Chinese food, I'd probably recommend Sun Chui Kee

Great Chinese BBQ and food, but pretty much an older run down restaurant with terrible service. If all you care about is food, great place, but you don't go for the service.
Sushi BBQ Inn is a great all you can eat place for the price of a university student. Both Korean BBQ and sushi.

There is better sushi, but it tends to be more expensive.
