late to the party: Fallout 4
question for you guys...
I have started a character.. and like the game so far.. but how do I 'enable' the talents? I see the talent map.. and it says I need to unlock Local Leader' and while I have the req. charisma, I cant seem to 'unlock' it...? any advice?

Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
Some perks have both a base stat needed (charisma in this case) and a minimum level needed. Local leader I think might also have a minimum settlement level needed too.
Oh and some perks also have another prerequisite of having another perk.

@twin, Id say get it for xbox but its single player so who cares... :
Thanks Marty, you were right, I had the required Charisma to unlock Local Leader, but hadn't 'settled' yet to assign a point. So now I did.
I played, and was stymied by a glitch.. in Concrod when you are supposed to clear the town of Raiders in the power-armor, the map was NOT showing the door to Deathclaw, so I was clomping around town until my fusion core ran out, and when I reclogged later the door showd on the map and then ofc I got massacred down there with no power armor. I had to go to a prior savepoint, where Preston Garvey had died in the shootout and I picked up his gear and laser musket. Once I cleared deathclaw and made my way back to the museum, Garvey was back alive and had a new set of clothes and musket lol.
So now I am in Sanctuary trying to get my peeps to get the Settlement going. I am stymied again, it says to get more food, I planted a bunch of stuff, and it says I need to 'assign' people, but I only have 3 people to assign.. so I am sitting at 4 food and need 5 to continue. Also, where and how do I craft more ammo? Went exploring and came across a massive raider camp and went through ammo like I was plying Division with Matty

Sanctuary is now good to go. Now I am still low on ammo (no surprise) and while I see a Vendor at Drumlin Diner, she only has a few of the rounds I need. Also, I have Preston Garvey as my companion now, can I equip him with anything>? I realize a dog and a robot, my revious companions, I can't exactly equip.. but you would think I could give Preston one of the 8 billion Raider Leathers I have found

Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
just trade with them, then goto their inventory and you should be able to equip them with any gear. You can get dog gear fyi.
for graphics, computer > ps4 > xbox, also on computer you can get mods, like skyrim, people have already done crazy mods, like changed the whole world so all the grass is green instead of brown and dead. I got it on ps4 simply because my computer cant handle it, i may pick it up on computer when its like 20 bucks on steam once i get a new computer if i still enjoy playing it on ps4 just to use mods. there were rumors that they were going to try to get mods to work on ps4.

Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
I have no interest in mods, once ive seen the one player-made one for Skyrim that makes all enemies 'dragons' and they all had the upper torso of Randy Macho Man Savage, complete with elbow drop and OOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH sound drops... less than 18 hours after his death

you dont want to run around as a space marine?

most of the skyrim mods i dled were immersion mods, like forcing you to eat or you lose stats, weather actually effects you, ect. as well as graphics mods to make the world look nicer, add more random animals ect.
there will always be stupid mods, i usually only look at the ones that got 5 stars. just because someone made a mod doesnt mean you have to use it.

Power armour isn't even that great in Fallout 4, having played through the game a few times now. It can help a little early on, but is really 'meh' later on where maneuverability is a lot more important. Only exception to this is the stuff you have to do in the glowing sea. You straight up need power armour there or good fucking luck!
Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
IM hooked on Settlements so who knows how its all going to progress. I just realized that Local Leader doesn't auto-link my workshops, it allows me to assign some mule settler to do the link? I am currently humping 450lbs of crap from Tenpines -> Redrocket - > Sanctuary in order to centralize my stuffs. It dawned on me when it said I needed circuitboards for a defense turret for Abernathy Farms, and Im like "Man, I have like 8 of those in my workshop, wtf?" and realized the workshop stashes weren't linked at all lol.

well you don't have to,.. I just haven't figured out how to link any spare settlers to do it for me.. and spare settlers I don't have yet, because my settlements are ass. Bcs I don't have Defence turrets. Bcs I didndt have circuit boards The Circle of Life

Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
as long as 1 is linked to another it chains, so i picked 1 settlement to send all its people to the other ones and it links them all.
ie A goes to B, B goes to C,D,E,F,G,H. C-H have access to A since B goes to them and it has access to A. just so you dont double up on settlers thinking you need to link each settlement to each other. I used the red rocket gas station as my B, it has like 2 workers making food and the rest travel.

there is a bunch of easter eggs in fallout 4 too, like cheers pub, i still havent found it yet.
Re: late to the party: Fallout 4
That's just the base game Andrew. Only one expansion out so far but I haven't tried it yet.
The base game is awesome, wasted a couple hundred hours on it really easily.
To Dennis, pick one or two settlements as your 'main' ones then link caravans to them as needed, once you have all you need at a place, redistribute its caravan to another settlement till its built up.
I chose the Castle as my main one, as it easiest defended and looks amazing when built up.
There is an in game trick to make your 'placeable objects' unlimited in each settlement, worth looking into for sure.

Ok cool,
Will pick up the base game tonight. I need me a little fallout fix,
I loved fallout 3, so this can only be awesome, is there a story line like fallout 3 like with the space Marines and such?

Very much a great story Andrew. Three or so main paths you can take, or work out a combo of them all to achieve end result.
Game looks infinitely nicer than the endless sea of brown and grey that was the wasteland in my opinion.
And the companions are awesome, well worth acquiring each of them, and maxing out reputation with them all, as they all give you a free unique perk at maximum relationship status.
