Game Summit 2013
So guys, it's official - I have been asked to once again be the TO for the FoW tournament at the upcoming GameSummit [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
What are your thoughts/inputs/suggestions?
It will be 24 players (12 tables) and 3 games- but what ERA, points, style, etc do you want to see?
Any certain missions you want to see played?
I want to work this out, and get it on RHQ as a sanctioned event sooner rather than later - then we can start to advertise.
Discuss!

As a different spin on what we've done so far we could make people bring 3 lists of which they can only use once (inf/mech/armoured). Would need plenty heads up though.

Sounds like if we want to make it red v blue it would have to be LW..

Re: Game Summit 2013
Ill agree on LW, purely for attendance purposes. And I guess since Fall Fubar was MW.
Re: Game Summit 2013
I like the red v blue but it is hard. I think LW has the largest player base so that would be my recommendation. I'm hoping I can get to this one as I can't play in the upcoming Pet tourney.

Re: Game Summit 2013
It will be LW- and most likely NOT Red vs Blue - due to making it open to as many lists as possible.
Re: Game Summit 2013
I think I should bring Romanians for a shot at best minor power

Re: Game Summit 2013
Ya, blue on blue would be fine for this event, nice to see some German armor up against the same in some matches, then it's about gamesmanship and strategy a little more IMO
Either way it's going to be a great new venue, even if it is on the other side of the border. Going to make a lot of long drives longer. Hopefully draw some fresh faces from the FdB crowd out.

Re: Game Summit 2013
We also need to actually check army lists -- apparently it's been two tournaments in a row where I've had to face lists with illegal artillery selections.
I'd say we could all help out and vet them the night before but the knowledge of other peoples list would be unfair...
At least make the list deadline a day or two earlier so if the TO has a chance to look through them (if he has to pitch in and play). I'd also suggest having a known penalty in the package, could be seen as heavy handed but seems needed.

Re: Game Summit 2013
I am on the fence about making a big "package" this time around. I have done it a couple times - and people never bring them/read them - and I don't want people knowing scenarios ahead of time.
As for vetting the lists - not sure how I can expect to get them ahead of time. One thing I could do, is if there is wifi - i could take 30mins and try entering them in EZarmy and see that they are legal -but that is most likely unrealistic, I will not have the time to do that seeing as how its open to 24 players.

Latewar at 1650 sounds good, my suggestions for missions would be one of the three categories (mobile, defensive and fair fight)each player should simply double check their opponents list before each game.

Also that doesn't catch the most common (honest) mistake. Where there inter-dependencies between units (eg: in most books you must take 105s before 155s) is not factored in.

I guess; if we say you must have your reference material (not just the easy printout) then it's the best time to check.
Have an explicit 5-10 minute time slot for list checking & anyone w/ an invalid list gives up a platoon kill (points tabulation only) every game?

Re: Game Summit 2013
there are so many books and lists and all the pts are different how would you check your opponently list, you'd have to take their book and list and compare them. Easy army also doesnt have all the lists.

Correct. Though I was assuming between us and teh interwebz we have pretty much everything covered.
Having a peer check the list kind of relies on the experience of the player (many noobs at our tournaments) but hopefully the "threat" of checking the list will make people double check their own beforehand...

Re: Game Summit 2013
I think it is best to just ask people to review lists at the start of the game
Reallity is we just need to rely on people to make legit lists..

List, and this should include the breakdown of points and should be vetted by the tournament organizer prior to the event, its not hard to make it mandatory and get your list in 48 hours before you play, if you don't do this there should be some sort of penalty for it. The easiest way to enforce it is to give ample time for the tournament to be public, if you have it posted now that the tournament is in February, then there is NO reason they can not get a list to you a few days prior and that's the list they have to play at the event.
If they can not provide the list or they 'forget' then hit them with 0 for sportsmanship for their 3 games. Its not fair for everyone to be done and there is always one or two that for some reason can not do this properly. It's also funny how Battlefront ONLY lists are allowed and Easyarmy is not a Battlefront site and has in the past been linked to mistakes for points breakdowns and sometimes allow you to make illegal choices when in the books you are clearly not allowed to make.

If we use peer review and catch someone out the could skunk you on sportsmanship..
Putting them online as text /IMG/PDF and crown source reviews a couple of days ahead of time is a great idea.

Re: Game Summit 2013
Not sure how we can ensure everyone has the opportunity to send in a list ahead of time - I have had people in the past without internet access that complained they couldn't get the player package downloaded....it takes all kinds....
Really, I can go over the lists quickly, and you should always review your opponents list - if there is an issue with it, bring it to me and we can deal with it.
No need to have rigid, hard rules that can blow someone's weekend for an oversight, especially if it is accidental.

Re: Game Summit 2013
