Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
So.. this morning.. go to turn PC on to listen to some tunes while I paint.. nothing. Nothing at all. I know its receiving a bit of power.. since where my cable goes in is blinking telling me I am getting internet connectivity. Can I assume Power Supply? Are they easy to replace..? And what kind should I get? My old one is just over 3 years old.. so I figure its power supply. Your thoughts?

Re: Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
Changing the power supply itself is pretty easy. Unplugging and replugging all of the cables is a minor pain.
For the power supply when they go they generally let off a smell...
I think Corsair is a decent brand,

Re: Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
A modular power supply has a bunch of different cables which can be connected to match your requirements. Non-modular has a standard set of cables which can be insufficient and have a lot of extra crap you don't need at the same time.

Re: Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
the new cards that run on pascal use hardly any power vs the old ones. so the 1050, 1060, ect you can look at what your current power supply is, should have a sticker with the stats, either get the same or a little more.
the 1050 gtx uses 75w recommended 300w for just it, so minimum what your supply is now or higher. You had a 900 or 800 series they used 120 watts and recommended 400w just for a comparison.
3 years is not old for a power supply, might have gotten damaged in a power outage or something similar.

If you really want, you can plug all your parts into this and it'll tell you how many watts you need.

Yay computer works.. I managed not to fry anything. One thing, I bought a 2nd SSD, and while Tris has mentioned that I'll need a SATA splitter cable so that the CDROM can still be connected, it appears the metal mounting is not there. I have an available Bay, and arranged my SATA power cables to have a free one right there to power it, but do you guys know if I can buy the metal frame that the SSD will sit on?

Re: Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
You didn't check your OS max beforehand I guess. You likely didn't need to add it, there's not a real difference you're going to notice for what you're doing. Cause I think your graphics card was pretty good right? If you need to offload some RAM though, I might be needing some. I'll check what my board supports, that way you're not out a ton of cash.

Pull the drive. Restart windows and back your stuff up. Then do a flat out reinstall, I'm not sure why adding an ssd is causing such a pain.
What card did you end up getting?

Re: Help me Obi Wan PC Hardware question
Drive has already been pulled. To recap.. i put in a 1060gtx a month ago... works great. Monday.. my power supply died.. got new one.. figured if i have the case open id put in another 16gb of ram and another SSD to put shit like DCS on to help with the abysmal load times now that its under a new engine. Power supply works. 16gb of ram seemed to work until limited by my OS.. and following Tristans advice.. used Disk Management to format my new SSD. That part failed.. and ive pulled it and still windows boot up hangs after windows logo.. gets to the Windows didnt start properly.. repair or start nornally.. neither of which works. I found my old OS disk.. changed my boot priority to cdrom.. and tried repairing it from the install/ repair menu... no dice
