While we wait for a new rules update FFG has added a FAQ to their forum.
Impact now only effects units with armour.

Also, suppression is only caused by ranged attacks.

So Cards > Rules Reference > Learn to Play.

But how do we know this? The rules reference. The rules reference also says to use the keyword text in the rules reference instead of the card text.

Some other rules that were changed or missed:

Units without a courage value cannot be assigned suppression markers. This really only effects Vader gaining a level of cover from suppression.

Also, and I don't know if I was the only one doing this wrong, the leader's courage value is only used for determining panic, not suppression. So it is possible to suppress stormtroopers near Vader.

Finally, and I didn't understanding this on my first read-through of the FAQ but cover has changed significantly.

Old Way:

Determine LOS from the highest part of the miniature over the center of the base. If you can see the target at all you have LOS.
Trace line from center of unit leader's base to any part of target's base. If any line passes through cover, target has cover.

New Way:
Determine LOS as normal, but also determine if any part of the target is obscured from the viewpoint of the highest part of the model over the base center. If not obscured there is no cover. If it is obscured then start tracing the line.

Basically, you look from the model's viewpoint and if the target is in the clear it is a clear shot. This means even troopers may find they have a clear shot when they can't quite reach cover instead of the cover 1" away from them providing cover for a target 12" away.
