Also echo your comments. I'm so glad you pet guys could make it.
Good job Matt, thanks for putting in the work to get this all together. I was also glad to see a couple new players, though I hope I didn't crush a guys hopes and dreams in game 1. He now plans to buy the gun support for his Nebs to stop pesky Stuarts!

Re: Great event as always!
Glad everyone had a good time....except for Chris in the third round.......seriously though, I think it went well.
A few things for next time:
1. Don't stay up until 2am changing a transmission the night before a tournament.
2. Familiarize yourself with tournament software BEFORE the first round is supposed to start.
3. If Chris is pushing for first overall, ensure he get's the best matchup on the best board with the best result......WIN AT ALL COSTS!! (sorry buddy)
4. Check army lists, then check point totals, then check to see if there are any extra platoons 'making their way' onto the table.
5. For me, I will try and get in the night before to set tables and terrain up!! Thanks for your help for setting up tables everyone, and helping tear them down!
14/16 players were there, was lucky enough NOT to play as I think it would have just been way too much to do, it really is a little more than I thought it would be, but it was also the first time at a new venue and I think everyone made a good first impression. Maybe another shortly?? Pet in NOV, take DEC off.....January anyone?? We at Dice Devils will keep you posted! Tournaments, by players for players. No one left empty handed, some were luck enough to capture the first ever 'TOP SHOT' award. Marty managed 14 platoon kills for the three rounds, narrowly edging out Louis...who is on his feet, and rolling dice once again after surviving a heart attack earlier this year. Glad you're up and about!!!

Re: Great event as always!
it was a great tourney, the third game it was just there was no cover and Marty was able to drive within like 8 inches of my army first turn and shoot them to crap and I'm all in the open. Hard to make saves vs 20 main gun and 20 machine gun shots...

Very fun but what to take for November...

Hah, bring a fortified company with naval gun fire support, a devastating bombardment, and a special character instead. I guess these are all the things people are upset about now as they are banned for the Fall-In doubles tournament.
Thanks;

Re: Great event as always!
I saw the ban list for Fall - In.
I don't expect to use any bans for Game Summit. The Meta that has everyone up in arms is only occurring in the USA tournament scene. I have yet to see or even hear about any of these lists making the rounds locally. I can see the point of "discouraging" certain lists that, when min-maxed, are no fun to play against but we are not so competition focused here that I don't think they are needed, at least not yet.
All this is not to say that things may not change, but I think the November tourney will also give us more info to base decisions on.

Re: Great event as always!
I don't think I've seen a single person play a fortified company yet so if there's one or two that's not so bad. But we are a lot better about not jumping on the fotm bandwagon.

Re: Great event as always!
I was just making a joke, not at all seriously suggesting that we should have a ban list, but also found it very strange that they had this. I think we do kind of get trends in our tournaments thou but they tend to vary. For example in the last tournament it seemed like there were many lists with tigers/king tigers (I faced 3 tiger.king tiger armies), this time there seemed to be allot of infantry companies (I played against 2 infantry and 1 mechanized). Who knows next time every one might bring armored cars or something.

Re: Great event as always!
Armies for lazy people that want to play events but not compete. I've never seen anyone win an event with them and sure you might have to play them, I think every list needs a AT solution for 'Big Cats'! Thanks for coming out again, hope you can bring more of the OMG guys along next time!Mike_A wrote:For example in the last tournament it seemed like there were many lists with tigers/king tigers (I faced 3 tiger.king tiger armies)

Re: Great event as always!
Only nice thing about facing 'Big Cats' is usually every army has an answer to them and that one unit can usually stop the Big Cats in their tracks alone if played right.
What I'm saying is its easy to have a defense against Big cats, whereas other lists are harder to plan a defense around and still be able to take all comers. That's how I succeed with the Stuarts. Sure everyone can stop a unit of Stuarts but with 17 of them in your face turn one and several recce units lifting your gone to ground, they can be a real problem.

The problem with Stuarts is the best counters (like trained Tigers) suck versus pretty much everything else

Trained tigers are one of the best counters?? My army would eat tigers for breakfast! So few tanks to deal with, my M10s and air would put a good hurting on them while the light assets kill the soft targets.Diragi wrote:The problem with Stuarts is the best counters (like trained Tigers) suck versus pretty much everything else
I see a great Stuart defense as medium tanks in numbers.
Re: Great event as always!
Dug in Veterans with support would give the Stuarts a go too....Chris was hurt bad by a number of factors in Game 3 (according to him):
Sparse terrain
No prepared positions
Going Second
Now, I wasn't there, and it could be argued he could of deployed at his far table edge so Marty wouldn't be so close after Recce moves and Spearhead, but it would have been uphill for Chris right off the bat regardless.
Marty's Stuart list is a tournament list- it is designed to hit hard and fast on turn one, then mop up. If you can stall it a turn or even 2, you have a good change of beating it.

Re: Great event as always!
If I get stalled a couple turn I am screwed unless I have been able to eliminate the ranged AT at that point.
With the Stuarts it's funny that I originally made them as a joke army for Historicon but ended up liking the all or nothing playstyle.

Re: Great event as always!
Here's a few from my first game with Chris. Didn't remember to take any in subsequent games. So where are the pictures?!!??!

I think my main issue throughout the day was lacking anti-tank abilities. Basically all I had was 4 plain Shermans and 2 piats which is not enough. But I wanted to play a few game with the Gurkhas since I never played them since we did infantry aces so tossed in what I had. US Para is definitely my favorite tournament army but you can only play the same thing so many times.
Not sure what to do for the pet tournament in November.
Thanks;
Mike

Well how the f' should I know what you have in addition to 17 Stuarts!! Figured the Tigers would impervious to them ... btw you could get 11 Tiger 1s and a 88 w/ gun pit for 1655...Joyous_Oblivion wrote:Trained tigers are one of the best counters?? At >1500 points I find Stuarts really lose their edge. The 17 Stuarts is only 680 points, so lots of room for other shenanigansDiragi wrote:Well how the f' should I know what you have in addition to 17 Stuarts!! I need to find which list lets me run multiple TDs and multiple Stuart platoons...I think the TD army would be fearsome with a handful of Stuarts. Just looking...I have 34 US tank destroyers of various shapes and sizes. I think that's an omen to play TDs in pet...or TFA...
