Toronto Team Yankee Tournament (and other games)

Found this tournament in Toronto. Never heard of it before, but they will be having a Team Yankee tournament. It will take place 8-9 September. That's the weekend after Nationals, so it may be hard to do both. Thoughts?

Its good.. its the cool storr in oakville that rob drew and I went to a tournament for... and that has Craig 'Lictor Hunt' Bodycote and who want to start hosting cdn nationals

ya, same as the team yankee. Warsaw pact vs NATO, Or do you mean Flames of War, Axis vs Allies? It's all the same difference.

Ok smartass I meant there are only armies. At least ww2 you could be stuff like french.. romanians etc for flames. Axis and allies is 5 armies. Team yankee at the start yes.. agreed but now has 10 choices

That is just troop variation, if you have a 2 faction game and each faction has 100 different units that is more diverse then a game with 4 factions and only 20 different units each. The game just came out so there isn't a lot of unit types yet.

I guess I just don't understand your worry about a 2 faction game, most games are 2 faction. French infantry is the same model basically as usa, british, soviet, german, they are just humans in uniforms. Just the colour of the shirts and pants are different. The units in star wars play more differently then the ones if Flames of war, ie snow troopers vs storm troopers, as where infantry in flames of war or team yankee is basically all the same now.

The infantry models for star wars are already more diverse then all of fow and ty. The fleet troopers, rebel troopers, and commandos all look completely different, much more variety. Each planet has a different uniform colour so that can make a ton of variation.

My issue with 2 factions is simple,

There can be more then 2, the "fluff" already accounts for it, and the problem with only 2 is that when you have 2 you end up with people taking the best of those 2.. there might be 100 choices, but only 15 might be good for the points..

Now if there are builds/formations or sub factions like Dark Angels vs Ultramarines, that could be cool too,

It is early, we will see, I might even be able to get a starter box one day

That's the same with any multi faction game too, look at 40k, 80% of armies are space marines, and inside space marines armies they only use a small selection of units from that list. What lists doesn't have terminators.

Just because D likes to play the oddball armies and units it doesn't mean that is the status quo. Look at how many internet lists end up at tournaments, the fact is its up to the players to create diversity in their lists themselves.

I just like it because its 28-32ish mm and star wars. There isn't a lot of models to paint in each unit so you can knock them out fast, and they look good.

Of course.. I'm not saying a multifaction system is perfect, there will always be better unit. But, when you have multiple factions with different units, you get more variety and intpurnaments you build you at to deal with different things.

Anyhow there is no argument here. More factions will be better, and no matter how many factions there are, players in tournaments will tend to take the best units from thier factions..

Anyhow, legion is a fun game, here is hoping we get more stater boxes, and hopefully another new starter with 2 new factions..

They have a lot of play and expansion so who knows what they will do in the future, a droid army would be awesome. A clone army would be preaty cool too, the storm troopers are different looking and they would be better soldiers then the episode 4-6 storm troopers. Hutt's potentially, their empire was just after the Infinite Empire (which were the Rakata for people who played swtor), they use to rule a large part of the galaxy it fell before the old republic was founded, there is the chiss empire which is on the western side of the galaxy just past the mandalorians which stayed neutral during the clone war but you could always do them.

I don't see how they don't do a Droid army (trade federation or something) at least. They could do the first order or clones too, but I'm not sure if they are trying to stay in the Era or Episode 4-5-6. Anyhow, lots of options

Problem with first order is there is no resistance army, Leia says the 3 ships is all that is left of the resistance, they have allies but no army any more. They probably all joined the republic army. I don't know why they didn't make them the newest republic navy, then when the starkiller kills all the newest republic planets she says something like "looks like were are now the only resistance to the new order now."

We have a new budding republic trying to make a democracy in the galaxy, but were going to remain as independents and change our name from the rebel alliance to the resistance... I just don't get it, it would have just as much sense as if they were republic fleet and all the rest were killed and they were all that remains.

Also you would think after the fall of the empire, the planets which didn't want to be empire would have freed themselves, there is no timeline yet between ep6 and 7, when did the new order show up, why didn't the republic make a proper fleet now that the empire was gone... I'm preaty sure geonosis would have freed themselves for example, since they were allies but then were enslaved to build the death star (after they designed it). They would have been one of the first to build a new fleet to fight for there independence.

I found that was the biggest problem with the new movies they don't explain what is going on in the galaxy.

Would anyone be interested in going to this?

I know its the weekend after nationals, but I have played two days in the last year, so I am up for gaming gluttony when I get back.
