1650 Late War list discussion
Not sure if everyone is aware, but Battlefront released this statement:
Tournament Point Totals for 2013-2014 - For the season beginning 8 October 2013 and ending 6 October 2014 the following point levels for each given era will be used for all Battlefront Flames Of War tournaments:
Period Point Total
Early-war 1550 points
Mid-war 1485 points
Late-war 1650 points
So with this in mind, Petawawa has announce that the November event with now be 1650pts. It is also safe to assume that GameSummit in February (Run by us) will be 1650 LW also.
So, what kind of lists are people thinking about?
Myself, as a long time German player, I am thinking of branching out to some new lists. However, one German list has captured my imagination - The Panzergrenadierkompanie (2.) from Panzers to the Meuse PDF. The reason? All the infantry teams are MG/Panzerfaust teams!! 7 stands of Confident Veterans all with MG/Fausts for 245pts. What's not to like?!?! The support options are what you would expect - Panzers, Rockets/Arty, PaKs, etc. It appears to be something solid to build on. But I digress - I play Germans enough to know I can with with a list from Panzers to the Meuse, so I want to try something new.
The two options I am weighing right now are either Canadians or Americans. But the odd thing is, they are in no way similar.
For Americans, I like the idea of running massed Confident Trained Armor, with all the neat "Special Shermans" the US can take - so that means the Tank Company (7th Division) from Blood Guts & Glory. I have most of the models already, and it would be a fast list to play (I do love to play fast - see my Cromwells as an example) but the biggest down side to this list is the "flavor of the month" stigma it has, coupled with the heavy reliance on special characters and special rules to basically prevent your opponent from really getting to play. It fits the niche of "tournament list" so well, that I think it would not be fun to play against. Perhaps I should run it on some FnF and see what you guys think?
For Canadians, it's the Rifle Company (C3rd) from the new Overlord book that caught my eye mainly because it allows for the use of the Defrocked Priest APC, for which I have 10!! I built a list with all the troops mounted in the Defrocked Priest APC and I just thought "Cool! This is unique and something many people will have never seen on the table!", but then I read further.........
1) Canadian Platoons do not use the British Bulldog special rule. Instead any Canadian Platoon that is Pinned Down may re-roll failed Motivation tests to rally from being Pinned Down or remount vehicles after being Bailed Out.
2)Canadian Platoons use the German Mission Tactics special rule.
3)When making a Night Attack, Rifle Platoons with Defrocked Priest armoured personnel carriers may still make Spearhead moves, even though the platoon is not entirely made up of Infantry teams.
Holy shit! Add those rules together and Canadian Rifles in Defrocked Priests are AWESOME!!!
So, I am working on a 1650 list for these guys, and I hope to bring it out Sunday.
What are you all thinking about list wise?

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
How about both?
Of hate having to face the us fotm armoured list at a tournament for the first time. And fnf is a perfect time to run lists for the lulz.

I like my Market Garden Canadians. They are CV and the infantry is mounted in Ram kangaroos which are way better than unfrocked Priests. You get a hull mounted mg and the option to mount a 50 cal. Plus the armour is 5 3 0.

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
That's relative - I can choose, on all but 3 missions, to Always Attack - and get Spearhead in the Priests. Rams don't have that option. The Rams have better armor for sure, but I can move my Defrocked Priests 24" BEFORE you even get to move/react - and then it's still night and you have to roll to even see me!RKelly wrote: the infantry is mounted in Ram kangaroos which are way better than unfrocked Priests
I just think the combination of rules in Overlord are more suited to my aggressive playstyle compared to Market Garden, so its "way better" for me
Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
I was toying with a 7th army build with Patton leading it. Having 4+ platoons getting a spearhead move is nuts.
Ditto for trying a Task Force A list, but in overlord they changed the army composition and I no longer have the minimum required units (need an Enginerring platoon)
For you Tristan, I'd try the defrocked priest idea. It sounds really cool to me!!

What, Tristan likes Priests with no clothes? J K JK
I have an idea of what Im running for FDB, but not for Petawawa yet. Might be Churchill list out of the PDF.. Cdn Infantry and Churchills. What could possible go wrong? Apart from anyone fielding FA9+ vs me

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
It's funny that the 7th armoured really caught on as a tournament list. It's the same issue as what happens with GW games where special characters cause problems. After using the Sherman combo platoon at Nationals I really enjoyed them (I had no idea how it would work but wanted them as characters in the avengers). Of course I just pulled off a block buster trade of 40k stuff for the 7th armoured div box set so despite it being the new hotness I'm still going to play it. Odd that it took over a year for bgg armoured lists to become the new competitive list.

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
Infantry is still stronger overall I think compared to BGG tank lists, simple because of the V3 Missions favoring defender so much............
But 7th is solid.....I have them, just have to paint them - but I think it will be C3rd in Defrocked Priests for me for now!

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
At the minimum I'd need one M8 Greyhound to run TFA, I miscalculated what I had. Ideally though I'd need 3 more M8s.
Still I can bang out a list and use an M20 as a proxy and hope I can snag an M8

Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
worst case, I have 'courage et honneure' M20 you can use. Its already green and has camo on it, and you can barely see the french cross on it
Also, Marty, ThrockMorton has a good review of the new P-38 kit up on WWPD, however he shares how to fix the bent wings in under five minutes: secret: Boiling water, and heavy books.

Saw that review, thanks D. Not sure about the air still. I looked at model and it will need a good sanding before I can even prime it. Why are their planes so damn glossy/smooth?
Re: 1650 Late War list discussion
I have a feeling its because they contract out a different company to make the planes. Otherwise the resin would be the same color as the tank hulls...
