Re: Worth a read
I typically play my Nasier, but like playing my Shael Han as well. Gortsi, I just got a tonne of Werewolves and am sticking to that theme.
Really thought about picking up a bit of Hadross at some point. Not a fan of the Teknes aesthetics.
I found that a starter is mostly all you need to really get into the game. All the extra units are variety opposed to necessary. I'd just say go for whatever faction you think looks cool. Beast of war just did a Wrath of Kings week with run downs of all the factions.

Re: Worth a read
Yeah, I've been watching those vids and battle reports - really like what I'm seeing. Nasier has the cool evil look, but Hadross are so alien looking, all fishy. no other game has models like them...so hard to pick lol..I will probably buy a starter and see how it goes.Glitch wrote:I typically play my Nasier, but like playing my Shael Han as well. Is there a good intro battle report to watch?

Re: Worth a read
There are a couple on Youtube that CoolMiniOrNot did during the kickstarter. Beast of War have some pretty good ones as well (though they're way longer).

Re: Worth a read
How many bits are needed for Wrath of Kings? I'm not talking miniature, I mean tokens and widgets that you never think about until you start playing
Re: Worth a read
Seems like wound markers (say a dozen for a whole force), motivation markers (about 5 for an army) from what I can tell.
Some people also use activation markers, but I doubt you need those to track what has moved/acted, as I dont need those in other games generally...
Kevin may know if other stuff is needed.
Hoping I can snag a demo from Kevin at some point soon

Re: Worth a read
I usually just use a brick of dice to keep track of wounds. Nothing has more than 5 wounds to my memory (almost everything are either single wound or have 2 or 3 at most).
I can see using activation markers could be useful, especially as you get to larger game.
If you play Hadross, you'll need markers for "resonance".
For motivation, you can usually calculate it pretty quickly, but I just use a D10 or poker chips.

Re: Worth a read
Boutique FDB has some Dark Ages and has had Wrath of Kings. I don't think they currently do but would probably order.
Re: Worth a read
Hmm, So having not played either, how different are Malifaux and Wrath of Kings? They seem similar in mechanics... except obviously Malifaux uses cards not dice..
Re: Worth a read
Dark Age, yes.
Wrath of Kings, no. I did get my Gortsi off of them though. Just sent Marc a message.
Malifaux is pretty different from Wrath of Kings. They're pretty fundamentally different games.

Re: Worth a read
I play both =P And I enjoy both.
Wrath of Kings is good for a casual game. Malifaux is a full investment kind of game on the scale of Flames of War and Warmachine/Hordes.

Re: Worth a read
Pretty sure last time I was in at Nexus they were selling off all their Wrath stuff at 50% off clearance if anyone goes down. I won't be going to KTown for a couple more weeks to check.
Re: Worth a read
CoolMiniOrNot also had a 40% sale over Black Friday on all Wrath of Kings stuff. But they are coming out with new books and units, so they're continuing to support the game.

Back to V4,
This was just posted: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
What we have here is a set of rules that really only address the forces from Desert Rats and Afrika Korps and is not a rule book that covers the other forces that are planned to come out later for Mid-War; such as the US, Soviets, Italians, and East Front Germans.
So the "free rule book" is functionally a MW rule book....read it for yourself. Man, this is getting convoluted....
In TY, all the info that is on the cards is also in the books and you do not need them to play. The same is not 100% true in MW V4. With so many special rules pre-baked into the stats on the cards you may find you will have to refer to them more often.
Well summed up here:
A standard and broad set of rules is a key to the success of any game. Do these rules meet that standard? A lot of speculation I mention above is based on a future which is uncertain. So let’s say I am a new player and I spend a couple of hundred bucks on a collection of British models from Desert Rats and sometime in 2018 I head to an open tournament that has forces from an Eastern Front book. Since I didn’t care to collect a force from that period I never got the new book. However the new book introduces a rule like “Mounted Assault”, wouldn’t that make my rule book (and maybe the force I have) garbage?

Re: Worth a read
don't worry the command card will have everything else, like frank sinatra as a special character, +1 last stand bonus, or captain oliver and his churchill (only way to get churchill now) you get to take one in the wild card slot in divisional support. Thats also how they are putting in all the other special characters, at least you can only take one.
