Cold War gone hot in 1987. So.. who is going to be first to make The Wolverines insurrectionist models from Red Dawn?

Seems like a bit too modern to cross-over with AIW (which, admittedly with the different ruleset, you wouldn't be able to do anyways).
Just reading up on the Leopard:
To meet immediate needs in Afghanistan, 20 of the Bundeswehr's stock of Leopard 2A6s were upgraded to 2A6M standard and loaned to Canada at no cost by the German government. Two Leopard 2 Büffel Armoured Recovery Vehicles were acquired at the same time. These vehicles were shipped from Germany to Afghanistan, with the first arriving on 16 August 2007.[11]
So we sent tanks to Afghanistan w/ no AC and the Germans felt so bad they lent us tanks? lololol

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
I thought the art looked hokey too at first, but the more I think about it, since it says World War III on there, I hope its a tongue in cheek propoganda shot like you would see in a movie.. think the "Want to know more?" Bug killing ads in Starship Troopers I hope its a semi fictional setting that allows for more than the same refights over and over again that I think plagued AIW and Nam. Again, since I have a tonne of Sov's, I am set (though plastic BMPs will mean insta-buy from me)
Maybe its the All-In game we are looking for And I'll put this up front, ANYONE who wants to borrow my Sov's for a game, just ask.

I'm on lunch so did a bit of digging on my phone. It appears team yankee is the name of a 80s book about ww3 tank battles? A la red storm rising. It is also the name of the game system. And thus fulda gap is the first sourcebook.. with us and ussr in it.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
I was hoping to use Leopard 1A5s so I guess neither GB or the French -- The AMX 13t was in production until 1987 but presumably that's the 13/90 variant and not the 13/75 which I have.

And who is going to rivet count you ...? I have BTR's that vary so much in size since the QRF one was molded in the 1980s and th Zvezda are brand new.

I just ordered a used copy of Team Yankee on Amazon for $9.98 before the rest of the world does the same.Matt Varnish wrote:I'm on lunch so did a bit of digging on my phone. Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
The Germans were more than happy to lend us tanks. They could get their tanks tested in real battle conditions without any Germans getting hurt. Helps with the sales pitch at Otto's used tank lot as well.
Our Leopards were just to old to last long in Afghanistan and no ac didn't help either.

It appears as though they are going to streamline the game for Team Yankee. This could backfire or be really good. I do wonder if this is the "War of the Ring" approach to game design, in which they are using this to gauge whether they can use this game design for a 4th edition of the regular FoW game (War of the Ring was an old GW game that had a lot of mechanics used in 7th edition fantasy before 7th came out, probably to test the waters).

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
I have to agree, War of the Ring was a great game (extremely breakable, but still great). I suspect that's why they went ahead with introducing it's mechanics into Warhammer Fantasy.
Likewise, I suspect if this new version of Flames of War in Team Yankee is popular, we can expect to see it become the new standard for Flames of War 4th.
Either way, it would seem that a more slimmed down version would ease the level of entry for newer players entering Flames of War. I suspect that when veteran players still have troubles remember the nuances of the games, it may be a little top heavy.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
That's the catch with historicals - how to make it "real" and exude the feel of the time/place - without getting too nuanced or top heavy in variations.
Will be an interesting thing to watch....

Stat cards of the T-72 and M1 Abrams. Interesting they decided to go with stat cards. Guess they're following the trend of the industry.
I'm not sure how I feel about this... It's looking to shape up to another "Super Hero/Elite Americans" vs. "Horde of Crummy Soviets"... We'll see if the special rules off set this a bit, and the points totals... Next week, the spoiler is the formations, so we'll see if this dispels this notion or not...
If it really is like this... I'll probably just stick to playing Confident Trained Red Bear Soviets vs. Confident Veteran Remagen Americans and call it good...
I know that this really is the feel of how the book "Team Yankee" goes, but it's not that interesting as a game... Has anyone read "Chieftain"? Is it similar in tone?
