Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Hi there, new guy here. I agree that the points totals will tell a lot. I would prefer two armies more equal in footing as well, but the M1 was a superior tank to the T72 from what I understand.
What I am hoping for is that a truly modern game emerges from this. ***Warning: Fantasizing ahead*** Call it WWIII in 2018 or something. You can have battles in Ukraine, Middle East etc etc. Modern armies going at it with some sort of story behind it. Almost like the RPG Twilight 2000 without the RPG component and instead of after the war, at the beginning of it.
Anyway, I am a complete new guy with regards to these games so with regards to game play and mechanics I cannot comment much, but as a concept I am pretty excited for it.

So... I forgot to post that they added the backside of the cards the next day, which have the cards...
It's pretty much another Soviet Swarm vs. Elite Americans... You're looking at an exact ratio of 7:4 T-74's to Abrams. Not debating realism or theory. If you want to do that, the comments section exploded with arguing back and forth. But to me, as a game, it isn't mechanically interesting...
Who knows, perhaps they'll release T-80's when the full release featuring the Brits and Germans, etc. Until then, I'm out.

how many points do you play, like 200, the tanks are dirt cheap. doing a 2000 point game would be like 100 tanks

Sadly I think I have to agree.

I don't think it will be that big. Team Yankee from the book is 10 M1s, a platoon of infantry in M113s and two Improved TOW vehicles. I can see it being something like that. They didn't even have a FOO at the start of the war if you can believe that.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
By the looks of the organization charts provided. I can see anywhere between 100, 125, 150, or 200pts being the norm. Two full platoons of Abrams, with two command Abrams is already setting you back 80pts. It depends how many points support ends up being. So I suspect 100-150pts to provide a degree of point limitation to make list building more challenging and interesting, but enough to get some fun toys. Again, it entirely depends on how expensive support is.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Some good news for Team Yankee. It seems that there is actually a large following for the game. Heck, Beasts of War decided to do a "Team Yankee Boot Camp" (Their weekend get-a-way of gaming). It was barely announced before it got sold old (Literally within hours). So it seems as though this could be a big thing.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Most definitely. They'll probably release some rules in a booklet in a Wargames Illustrated before a full book release. It was mentioned that this won't necessarily be FoW, or even FoW light. It'll be interesting to see what the full game looks like.
As for me, I already have a Soviet tank list, and Cold War Americans don't interest me... However, I'll probably revisit it once the Brits and Germans are released, as I'm interested in Chieftains and Challengers.

I don't know. I kinda like the idea of a bunch of highly mobile/lightly armoured AMX-30's running around blowing stuff up.

It's kind of ironic for me to say but I'll probably play French if Battlefront expands into full moderns. All thanks to World of Tanks lol.

I re bought my 1390 but haven't grinded it yet.
Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Someone took a camera to the FoW Team Yankee display at Essen in Germany. They take a look at each unit briefly. It makes me feel a bit better about it, but I'm still holding out till they announce either a T-80 or when the Brits come out (And of course when we see the actual rules set, though based on the Breakthrough Assault podcast, it is sounding not too bad). Otherwise, it looks pretty cool. And you can even transport infantry through helicopters.

Also, notice at about 4:40, there is a map of controlled territory. There is a significant French controlled zone, so we may see those AMX-30's down the line.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Desert.. RKelly and I did some playtesting for another ruleset called Sabre Sqdn. So even IF this ruleset sucks, it won;t matter, because the BF models are sure to be way better than the available QRF ones, and we can sue them for whichever rules. I've already prepared my wallet for COld War stuff.. luckily Ive already got 15 T-72s all painted and raring to go, but I might need more if the novel Team Yankee is anything to go by. I do want all the BMPs though! 3 x BTR-70s is not enough!

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Was listening to the breakthrough assault podcast and Phil did mention that they made sure that the American force featured in Team Yankee was exactly 100pts. So I suspect that the game is largely based around being able to recreate the book to some degree.

I took a quick look at the quick start rules of sabre squadron, and they look pretty decent. I'd probably be interested in at least trying out both rule sets anyways.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
FDII has the current mag that has the TY preview stuff.
example M1 has FA 18, side 8, top 2, and the 105mm M68 gun has an AT of 20, 2+ FP range 40. The T72 is FA16 Side 8 top 2 and the 2A46 gun is AT22 FP2+ but range 32. The M113 looks like it can "fire" dragon missiles only if the passenger is in it. No card for the M113 ITV though the card for the AA13 Gopher anti aircraft missile has no AT value just a 4+ FP. So it looks VERY MUCH like the meat and potatoes of the FOW ruleset are being used except for movement, that looks completely redone, I have no idea what the values mean.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Read a bit more of the mag at lunch. It turns out the author of the novel Team Yankee is an avid FoW player and had sent the HQ an autographed copy of the book, and that spurred them to model the game after the 'cold war gone hot' scenario in there. And since the novel is out of print, Battlefront will be re-issuing it. Glad I already read it, thanks RKelly.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
Pretty cool.
Really reinforces why they decided to make the force "Team Yankee" itself 100pts in the game, and scale everything else accordingly.
I suspect that also means that the standard game will be about 100pts.

Re: AMERICA........... <TEAM YANKEE>
The values are kinda doubles,
I think they use "Courage"(?) now, and that has 2 separate meanings for morale and remounting tests, so like, Courage 3 might remount on 3 and assault or unpin on 2's, I cant recall the specifics
They've consolidated a lot to really simplify the rules, try and really beer and pretzel it to attract the ever growing group of skirmish gamers
